Hemp CBD and cannabis CBD. Do they have identical medical benefits?
Before we go ahead, it is necessary explain that still many people don’t know the legal differences between both types of Cannabis Sativa.
To add more confusion to this matter there are laws like the one of 1970 Controlled Substance Act, which ultimately categorized hemp and cannabis as a schedule 1 drug and indistinguishable from one another. 45 years later the confusion continues.
On top of it the description of hemp depends on the country legislation. For instance, Health Canada describes hemp as “all parts of any Cannabis Sativa plant containing no psychoactive properties”
In 1976 was published a study in the US which said that “both, hemp varieties and marijuana varieties, are of the same genus, Cannabis, and the same species, Cannabis Sativa.” This does not brings light to the subject at all.
The law should say something like:”Cannabis (also known as marijuana, pot, weed, ganja etc.) is used when describing a Cannabis Sativa plant that is bred for its high levels of THC. It is bred to generate a “high effect”
However, Hemp is used to describe a Cannabis Sativa plant that has only trace (basically non-existent) amounts of THC.
Hemp structure is different too. It is generally very tall and can be used to produce things such as oil, fiber, and different materials for construction.
Both marijuana and hemp contain CBD. The question is: which one is better for health purposes? The fact is that CBD is always CBD. No matter if it comes from hemp or cannabis. However, the relationship between CBD and THC can be more beneficial and have a higher efficacy rate because the CBD and THC work synergistically within the body.
But since hemp or cannabis need to have 0,3% or less THC (which is almost nothing) many disorders could be cured just increasing a little bit the amount of THC allowed to be considered medical cannabis. CBD alone, no matter if it comes from hemp or cannabis, is beneficial. But many scientists think the amount of THC allowed is too short.
