The project plans to invest 250 million Euros in El Toyo (Almería – Spain) and also create 450 qualified jobs
Hospital medicinal cannabis. While it is true that the recreational use of cannabis raises controversy, it is also true that almost no one doubts about the medicinal properties of this plant. Cannabis contains two cannabinoids, THC and CBD, whose medicinal properties are extraordinary. They can be used in the treatment of glaucoma, for the reversal of the carcinogenic effects of tobacco and to increase lung health, for the control of epileptic episodes.
It can also prevent the proliferation of cancer, decrease the feeling of anxiety and slow the development of Alzheimer’s disease, and many more advantages.
It is not strange that so many countries in the world have shown enormous interest in the subject. Not only is the implementation of a natural medicine without adverse side effects, it is also a model of economic development for the sector of agriculture and medicine, directly, and many other sectors, indirectly.
In Almería (southern Spain), GSG & Associates has been preparing a hospital and a greenhouse for medicinal cannabis cultivation for a year, which would be next to each other. They are not two projects; It is just a unique project in the world, which would put this hospital at the forefront of worldwide oncology and poorly studied diseases. The project will have a sophisticated R & D laboratory and accommodation for patients and relatives.
The project starts with a budget of around 250 million euros and the creation of 450 highly qualified jobs. This would be a real “boost” for the economy of Almeria, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in Spain. But in addition, it could turn Spain into an international benchmark on the medicinal use of cannabinoids, as Alejandro Londoño, an expert in medicinal cannabis, who is advising the promoters of the project, and Antonio Veiga, CEO of GSG & Associates, say.
Investors are allocating an area of 10 hectares (one million square meters) for greenhouses. The hospital will be built on a plot located in the town of El Toyo, which is also near the airport of Almeria. At present, different locations are being studied, all very close to the hospital, for the construction of the hotel for patients and relatives.
The project is based on a large plot whose design is an urban concept that invites you to walk around the facilities. It will have glass greenhouses equipped with the latest technology for the cultivation of medicinal cannabis. It will also have an information center whose function is information and training in order to teach society the benefits of therapeutic cannabis and put an end to the false myths that exist about marijuana. Investors believe that the project will pay off very quickly, thanks to the high production capacity of their crops.
In 2017, the Spanish Government began to grant the first licenses for the cultivation of medicinal marijuana for therapeutic use. It is about following in the footsteps of other countries such as Colombia, Uruguay and the United States. To date, in Spain there are five companies with permission from the Ministry of Health to grow cannabis for therapeutic and research purposes. The Government of Spain has authorized DJT Plants Spain SL and Alcaliber, SA to grow cannabis whose content in THC cannot exceed 0.2%. On the other hand, the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products, has given licenses to Phytoplant, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, CIJA Preservation SL and DJT Plants Spain, SL.
