Golfer Matt Every has been suspended for the PGA Tour for 3 months for testing positive for cannabis
The 35-year-old American golfer, Matt Every, has been suspended for the rest of 2019 after testing positive for cannabis and will not be allowed to return to the PGA Tour, the organizer of leading professional men’s golf courses in the United States and America from the North, until January 7, 2020.
Although a doctor legally prescribed cannabis in Florida, where he resides, marijuana is a prohibited substance under the anti-doping policy of the GPA Tour.

Without giving many explanations, The PGA Tour announced on Friday that Matt Every has been suspended for 12 weeks after violating its drug abuse behavior policy. In a brief statement, the GPA Tour said that Matt Every will be able to return on January 7, 2020, when the Sony Open week begins. He will miss three tournaments.
Matt Every sent a press release in which he explained that he had been suspended for testing positive for cannabis. The golfer is resigned and has explained that cannabis has been legally prescribed to him to treat a mental health condition. He also explained that he could not take drugs of the “Z” class or benzodiazepines, substances that he considers dangerous for the body and mind and that are very addictive.
Every regretted being suspended for testing positive for cannabis since marijuana has proved, by far, the safest and most effective treatment for him. Every acknowledged that he knew the Tour’s Conduct Policy on drugs before breaking it and that he has no choice but to accept this suspension and move on. For its part, the GPA Tour said it would not further comment on the golfer’s suspension. And although Every said he did not agree to have been suspended for testing positive for cannabis for many reasons, mainly for his general well-being, he said he was already excited thinking about everything that awaits him in his life and his professional career.
Matt Every was already arrested in 2010 for a misdemeanor of possession of cannabis while staying at an Iowa casino. Apparently someone called the police complaining about the strong smell of marijuana coming out from the golfer’s room.
The American golfer won twice the GPA Tour and once the Nation Wide Tour Championship in 2009, in addition to the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2014 and 2015. Every is the seventh golfer expelled from the competition for consumption of substances prohibited by the regulation. Robert Garrigus was also suspended for testing positive for cannabis last March.
